Des milliers de r\u00e9cits convergent depuis des si\u00e8cles, souvent rapport\u00e9s par des observateurs fiables \u2014 pilotes, physiciens, militaires \u2014 et pourtant <strong>aucune th\u00e9orie ne fait aujourd&rsquo;hui consensus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Longtemps trait\u00e9e comme une l\u00e9gende ou une illusion d&rsquo;optique, elle est d\u00e9sormais reconnue comme un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne r\u00e9el par la communaut\u00e9 scientifique. La nature exacte de la foudre en boule ne fait pas encore l\u2019objet d\u2019une explication scientifique unique. En cas de ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne lumineux pendant un orage, restez \u00e0 distance, ne le touchez pas et appliquez les r\u00e8gles habituelles de protection contre la foudre.<\/div>\n    <\/aside>\n  <\/div>\n<\/section><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><h3>Ce qui la rend si d\u00e9routante<\/h3>\n<p>Trois comportements d\u00e9fient l&rsquo;intuition physique :<\/p>\n<p><strong>La stabilit\u00e9.<\/strong> Un plasma se dissipe normalement en quelques millisecondes. Une foudre en boule persiste plusieurs secondes, voire davantage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La p\u00e9n\u00e9tration.<\/strong> Des t\u00e9moins rapportent son passage \u00e0 travers des <strong>vitres intactes<\/strong>, des chemin\u00e9es, des conduits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L&rsquo;ind\u00e9pendance.<\/strong> Elle se d\u00e9place lentement, parfois <strong>\u00e0 contre-courant du vent<\/strong>, et semble suivre des trajectoires propres.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Dans quel contexte appara\u00eet-elle ?<\/h2>\n<p>La foudre en boule est presque toujours associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une <strong>activit\u00e9 orageuse intense<\/strong>. Elle survient typiquement :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Juste apr\u00e8s un coup de foudre<\/strong> puissant, dans les secondes qui suivent<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur des b\u00e2timents<\/strong>, pr\u00e8s des prises, chemin\u00e9es, fen\u00eatres<\/li>\n<li><strong>En ext\u00e9rieur<\/strong>, au sol ou \u00e0 faible hauteur<\/li>\n<li><strong>En aviation<\/strong>, dans les cabines d&rsquo;avion traversant des zones orageuses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sa fr\u00e9quence est difficile \u00e0 \u00e9tablir. Les estimations sugg\u00e8rent qu&rsquo;environ <strong>1 personne sur 150<\/strong> en observerait une au cours de sa vie \u2014 soit une pr\u00e9valence comparable \u00e0 celle d&rsquo;\u00eatre t\u00e9moin d&rsquo;un impact de foudre direct.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Les th\u00e9ories scientifiques<\/h2>\n<p>Aucune explication ne rend compte de l&rsquo;ensemble des observations. Plusieurs pistes coexistent.<\/p>\n<h3>La th\u00e9orie du silicium vaporis\u00e9 (Abrahamson-Dinniss, 2000)<\/h3>\n<p>La plus \u00e9tay\u00e9e aujourd&rsquo;hui.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque la foudre frappe un sol riche en <strong>silice<\/strong>, la chaleur extr\u00eame r\u00e9duit le dioxyde de silicium en <strong>nanoparticules de silicium<\/strong> pur. \u00c9ject\u00e9es en a\u00e9rosol, ces particules s&rsquo;oxydent lentement au contact de l&rsquo;air, lib\u00e9rant \u00e9nergie et lumi\u00e8re pendant plusieurs secondes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Points forts :<\/strong> explique la dur\u00e9e de vie, la luminosit\u00e9, l&rsquo;odeur et l&rsquo;explosion finale. <strong>Limite :<\/strong> n&rsquo;explique pas le passage \u00e0 travers les vitres ni les apparitions en cabine d&rsquo;avion.<\/p>\n<h3>La th\u00e9orie du plasma confin\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>Un plasma maintenu en coh\u00e9sion par ses propres champs \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tiques, formant une structure auto-stabilis\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Point fort :<\/strong> rend compte de la forme sph\u00e9rique et de la lumi\u00e8re. <strong>Limite :<\/strong> aucun m\u00e9canisme connu ne permet une stabilit\u00e9 de plusieurs secondes.<\/p>\n<h3>La th\u00e9orie des micro-ondes pi\u00e9g\u00e9es (Kapitsa, 1955)<\/h3>\n<p>Le physicien sovi\u00e9tique <strong>Piotr Kapitsa<\/strong>, prix Nobel, proposait qu&rsquo;une onde \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tique stationnaire pi\u00e8ge une bulle de plasma dans une cavit\u00e9 d&rsquo;air ionis\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Point fort :<\/strong> explique la travers\u00e9e apparente des vitres. <strong>Limite :<\/strong> exige une source de micro-ondes continue, rarement pr\u00e9sente.<\/p>\n<h3>La th\u00e9orie des hallucinations magn\u00e9tophosph\u00e8nes (2010)<\/h3>\n<p>Des champs magn\u00e9tiques intenses g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s par la foudre pourraient stimuler le <strong>cortex visuel<\/strong>, cr\u00e9ant une perception lumineuse sans objet r\u00e9el.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Point fort :<\/strong> explique certains t\u00e9moignages en cabine ferm\u00e9e. <strong>Limite :<\/strong> ne rend pas compte des cas o\u00f9 <strong>plusieurs t\u00e9moins<\/strong> d\u00e9crivent le m\u00eame objet, ni des traces physiques laiss\u00e9es (br\u00fblures, objets fondus).<\/p>\n<h3>L&rsquo;observation spectrale chinoise de 2012<\/h3>\n<p>Une \u00e9quipe de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 normale du Nord-Ouest a captur\u00e9 <strong>accidentellement<\/strong> le spectre d&rsquo;une foudre en boule lors d&rsquo;une campagne d&rsquo;\u00e9tude de la foudre au Qinghai.<\/p>\n<p>Le spectre a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence de <strong>silicium, fer et calcium<\/strong> \u2014 les \u00e9l\u00e9ments constitutifs du sol local. <strong>Une confirmation majeure<\/strong> de la th\u00e9orie du silicium vaporis\u00e9, et \u00e0 ce jour la seule mesure instrumentale directe du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Est-ce dangereux ?<\/h2>\n<h3>Les risques document\u00e9s<\/h3>\n<p>La majorit\u00e9 des observations se soldent <strong>sans dommage<\/strong>. La sph\u00e8re dispara\u00eet ou explose \u00e0 distance.<\/p>\n<p>Mais des cas graves sont recens\u00e9s :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Br\u00fblures<\/strong> par contact direct<\/li>\n<li><strong>D\u00e9c\u00e8s<\/strong> par arr\u00eat cardiaque, rares mais attest\u00e9s<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incendies<\/strong> d\u00e9clench\u00e9s par l&rsquo;explosion finale<\/li>\n<li><strong>D\u00e9g\u00e2ts mat\u00e9riels<\/strong> : objets fondus, appareils \u00e9lectriques d\u00e9truits, trous dans les vitres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le cas le plus souvent cit\u00e9 reste celui de l&rsquo;<strong>\u00e9glise de Widecombe-in-the-Moor<\/strong> (Angleterre, 1638) : une sph\u00e8re lumineuse aurait travers\u00e9 le b\u00e2timent pendant l&rsquo;office, causant 4
